Welcome Spring with Fresh Herbs and Veggies Grown with Miracle-Gro Organic Choice

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Organic Choice. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hi there!  Can you believe it is already spring?  It certainly doesn’t feel like spring here but I’m so ready for some sunshine and warm weather.  One of my favorite things about spring is the return of farmer’s markets and the abundance of fresh herbs and veggies that making cooking so much better.  I’ve always wanted to grow my own garden but my 700 sq ft apartment doesn’t have the same aspirations as me.  Luckily, when Miracle-Gro reached out to me about Organic Choice and inspired me by how easy it is to grow organic products in my own home, I realized that I was just making excuses!

Miracle-Gro Organic Choice is an environmentally friendly line of gardening products perfect for growing your own herbs and vegetables.  I love that their gardening products are made from natural and organic ingredients, meaning that I can grow organic food in my own home!  I also love the fact that by growing my own food, I can really cut down on my environmental impact.  Even when I buy locally grown food at farmer’s markets, the produce comes from areas that are at least an hour outside of the city.  I have seen some really beautiful places on this earth and I like being able to do my part to keep those places beautiful!

Now that I’ve decided to grow my own herbs and vegetables, I realized I needed to do some research on exactly how to grow them!  Here are a few tips I picked up:

1.)  Pick a spot that is accessible.  Near the kitchen is preferable but somewhere where you can easily harvest your goods!

2.)  Consider the size.  I don’t have a ton of space in my apartment, so I know that I need to keep my garden small.  Being realistic about how much space you have and what you can do in that space is very important for success.

3.)  Sunlight is important.  Herbs and vegetables need sunlight to grow so it is important to pick a spot that gets several hours of sun a day.

4.)  Soil.  Plants need soil to grow so I am excited to be using Organic Choice to help me establish a green thumb!

5.)  Water.  Just like sun, plants needs water to grow.  The best time to water is in the morning and you should water at the root rather than the foliage.

Sounds easy, right!?  Ok, now for the hard part… what to grow and what recipes to make.  The possibilities are endless.  I am thinking of some basil, mint and tomatoes. And potentially some cilantro, cucumber and radishes.  I was thinking of making a nice caprese salad or maybe a salsa and then using the mint to make spring pasta dish.  Or maybe some pesto!  This is where I need your help!

Readers, what herbs or vegetables should I grow?  Any recipe suggestions?  Have you ever grown your own herbs and vegetables?
