Baby Weekend

In Baby

Hello friends!  I was going to do my 20 week recap this week but I’m going to have to put off until next week because I have to tell you about the weekend that I have dubbed “Baby Weekend!”  My mom came up to NYC this past weekend to spend some time with me, get some pampering and do some shopping done for baby B!

We started out with some lunch after I left work on Friday at Le Pain Quotidien.  The one near my work has a beautiful outdoor courtyard in the back, which is so nice because normally when you sit outside in NYC, you are right on the street.  It was so quiet in their courtyard and we enjoyed some yummy gazpacho, quinoa cake and quinoa tabbouleh.

After lunch we headed to a nearby salon & spa for some manis and pedis.  My tootsies have been a little swollen lately so I was pretty excited for some TLC on those babies.

Afterwards we walked over to Bryant Park for a *free* outdoor modern dance performance!  Apparently these performances have been going on for a few weeks every Friday but I just stumbled upon their existence recently and I am so glad I did!  The  performances were amazing!  I couldn’t believe that we had access to such a great performance, outside and for free!

By favorite were the performances by Steps on Broadway’s modern dance group.  I thought the dancers were just so talented!

Saturday started bright and early at Drybar, which is quite possibly one of my favorite places ever.  First, I love all their yellow decor.  I want all of their bright yellow hair styling tools!  Second, I always feel so pampered when I go there but I think $40 for a blowout is a pretty good deal!

After almost an hour of relaxing in the chair, the end result looked a little something like this:

And with that we were ready to let the shopping begin!  I headed to Giggle to start my registry only to find out that you are supposed to make an appointment to register.  Seriously!?  Could having a baby be more complicated?  I got the sales associate to help us anyway and we started our registry.

I felt overwhelmed on more than one occasion.  I have no idea what kind of stroller or bathtub or changing pad I need.  I just started scanning things that looked good!  After about an hour and a half of scanning, we decided to call it a day.  I feel good that I at least got started thinking about things I could possibly need but still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing.  Not to mention that the Hubs and I need to get second jobs!  Seriously, strollers can cost about $1,000!

But I couldn’t dwell on this for too long because we had to head to midtown for tea at the Plaza Hotel!  My mom and I have sort of a little tradition of having tea at the Plaza.  We went about three years ago (almost to the date) when we were shopping for my wedding dress.  I was excited to go back and celebrate this milestone.

I love love love tea at the Plaza.  The atmosphere is so relaxed, but still proper and the tea is amazing.  I got the classic New Yorker Tea, although I made a few sandwich substitutions to fit my current dietary needs.  I had a pear rooibus tea that was absolutely to die for, just the right amount of sweetness that didn’t require any milk or sugar.

My favorite part: the warm scones with Devonshire cream, lemon curd and preserves.  A proper afternoon tea!  Oh and I especially appreciate the crustless sandwiches! 🙂  The mini lobster roll was pretty cute!

After tea we decided to go to Pottery Barn Baby to get some nursery ideas.  On the way we spotted Bellini baby and decided to pop in.  They do the most beautiful handmade bedding for baby.  You can choose your colors, fabric, edging pattern, theme and they will make it to fit your crib.  For a price of course…I think the total for three piece bedding (bumper, skirt and sheet) would cost about $1,000.

Feeling even more overwhelmed, we went next door to Pottery Barn Baby.  And that is where the credit cards came out!  I have the most adorable theme for Baby B’s nursery and I was so excited to find sheets and bedding that I absolutely fell in love with and didn’t cost anywhere near $1,000!

We arrived home with our purses a little bit lighter but I’m feeling that I am making strides forward!  Time is just flying by and I can’t believe that I have only four and half short months before Baby B gets here!  Holy moly!

Thanks Mom for helping me this weekend! 🙂

Readers, do you prefer your sandwiches with the crust or crustless?  I never eat the crust and according to Bendall lore, that is why my hair is super straight and my husband and sister-in-laws all have wavy hair.  Moms, did you feel overwhelmed shopping for baby for the first time?  Have you ever been to a proper afternoon tea?
