The Busy Girl’s Guide to Having a Baby

Hey hey all!  Hope you are having a fabulous day as always.  Becoming a mom is definitely an amazing and life-changing experience.  So much is unexpected and it is both hilarious and terrifying at the same time.  Of course the baby snuggles are the best!

We hear over and over that every pregnancy and every baby is different and it is so true.  There is no one way to have a chid.  However, I think there are a few universal truths:

1.) You will be sleep deprived and exhausted.

2.) You will be on an emotional rollercoaster.

3.) You will not feel like doing anything besides chilling with the baby.

So while you are busy taking care of your baby, I’ve got a few suggestions for you on how you can make your life a little bit easier!  And, hey, maybe you don’t have a new baby, you are just a busy mom or working lady and need an extra hand.  These suggestions can work for you too!

1.) Freeze some meals.  I found that freezing a bunch of meals before the baby got here was so helpful so that I didn’t have to worry about what to make for dinner when I was exhausted and generally busy with the baby.  Plus, it’s nice to have some healthy options on hand so I’m not always ordering takeout.

2.) Have healthy snacks on hand. Breastfeeding makes me hungry all.the.time so I like to have snacks on hand.  I make sure when I do my shopping to stock up on snacks so when the hunger hits I can easily grab something.   I have a few healthy snacks that I typically enjoy and I also love Naturebox.

3.) Delivery is your friend.  Let’s face it, babies need a lot of stuff: diapers, wipes, bottles and so much more.  Not to mention the fact that you still need things like paper towels and toilet paper.  I love Diapers.com and Soap.com, which are basically online baby and pharmacy stores that offer free two day shipping with orders over $49.  It’s so easy, so convenient and they have plenty of brand options!

4.) Do double duty.  Before having the baby I was concerned that I wouldn’t have any time for myself to workout.  The good news about babies is that they really don’t have much of an opinion on what you decide to do!  So I’ve been doing a little double duty by walking with the baby and doing a few squats while holding him.  I feel like I’m able to keep active without sacrificing any time with him.

5.) Try a meal prep delivery service.  Feeling ready to cook again?  Try one of these meal prep delivery services to help you get dinner organized.  They are great because the menu is set, you just choose what you want, the ingredients and the recipe are sent to you.  All you have to do is prep the food and cook it!  Most meals only take between 30-40 minutes and they taste great!

6.) Budget a housecleaner or gardener or someone to help you out.  Give yourself a little post-baby present, the gift of help.  Just having a few people around to take care of some chores while you are getting your bearings as a new parent can be really helpful.

7.) Don’t worry so much.  It’s so easy to get overwhelmed with everything you have to do each day from taking care of the baby to yourself, the rest of your family and keeping the house clean.  Sometimes you just have to let things go.  Remember, this stage will not last forever and things will get easier.  So for now, just focus on enjoying time with your newborn.

8.) Download an app!  I use the BabyNursing app.  It is amazing!  It has an easy timer to record feedings and shows you all your feeds for the day.  You can also record diapers and pumping and so much more.  I actually use the medication portion to keep track of my own C-section meds and even was able to set a reminder telling me to take my meds.  I love this app because, quite frankly, when you are up in the middle of the night, it is hard to remember what has been happening!
