Jillian Week 1 Recap

As many of you know, I am committing myself to Jillian’s 90 day Body Revolution program.  I’ve completed week 1 and here are my thoughts so far!

Workouts:  The workouts consist of 2 strength and 1 cardio DVDs that are each performed twice this week.  I thought the cardio and one of the strength DVDs were excellent.  The other strength DVD was not bad but I’m looking forward to moving on to a more challenging DVD for those areas of the body.  This week and next week are for building up strength, endurance and generally getting ready for the more challenging weeks ahead.  They were only 30 minutes long so I really felt like I was able to breeze through my workouts this week-no scheduling problems at all!

Food:  O.k. normally diet food is king of, well, blah.  I have to say, the recipes in this program are great!  I made Almond-crusted chicken breasts with cabbage and apple slaw, Grilled lemon chicken with no cream creamed spinach and Mediterranean lamb burgers with cucumber and yogurt salad.  These recipes were amazing!  Everything tasted so good.  I have to say I was a little bit skeptical of the no cream creamed spinach because 1. I’m not a huge creamed spinach fan to start and 2. it used almond milk, which I am not entirely used to/never had before.  It ended up being really good!  I kind of can’t believe these meals are all healthy!  Drawbacks- time.  Oh.my.gosh.  All these recipes are so time consuming (hello food processor-we have never seen so much of each other in one week!).  The time it takes to cook all these meals was a little bit stressful for me so I may have to intersperse some other options (that are still healthy) to make this program more manageable.  Breakfast was fine but I stuck to easy options, i.e. nothing that required cooking like eggs.  Lunch was completely impossible.  The recipes look great but I just do not have the time or resources to cook myself full meals for lunch and there is no way I have the time to make the recommended dinners and lunch for the next day at night.  I would basically need to quit my job, stay home and just cook.  On the bright side, I have a lot of great healthy lunch options near my office and I can easily great the nutritional information online so I did that this week.

Overall Thoughts on Week 1:  This is great.  Bring on some more!
