Jumpstart January

Hey there! Happy New Year! I hope you had an amazing holiday! They just seemed to fly by for me. I can’t believe it is 2015! This is the time of year where everyone makes resolutions and tend to focus on their health. For me January is not that different from any other month out of the year because I am always trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle, however, this year is really different for me.  I actually have about 15 to lose of baby weight and I need to commit to exercise and healthy eating. While I’ve always been great at both, I now have the added challenge of taking care of a baby and while I used to eat healthy with a good dose of indulgences, I really need to make healthy eating a priority to help me lose the weight.

Jumpstart January

So all this is to say that Jumpstart January is just as much about me as it is about you! Let’s make a pact to put our best healthy foot forward this month.  I’ll be checking in here and I hope you do too no matter what your goals are.

Here are a few tips to get you started!

1. Every meal is a chance to make a healthy decision. Maybe you got takeout last night but that doesn’t have to mean a big breakfast. Approach each meal with the mindset that now you have a clean slate to make a good choice.

2. Don’t go cold turkey. It’s hard to eat healthy all the time. Start with small steps and slowly make changes everyday. For instance start by cutting out soda or other beverages and drinking more water. Then eliminate artificial sweeteners. Then start eating whole wheat, etc, etc. Baby steps will feel more manageable.

3. Juice it! My brother gave me a huge book of juices for Christmas and I want to start making juices at home (note to self–buy juicer). Juicing is a great way to get in some more fruits and veggies. Plus the combos can be really fun and tasty!

4. Start exercising.  If you don’t already, now is the time!  Start with thirty minutes or three bursts of ten minutes a day.  It’s not that hard and you’ll find that you begin to enjoy it!

5.  No more excuses.  This is a big one.  You have to leave your excuses at the door and be ready to make the change.  Make your health a priority in 2015 and you will not regret it!

On a slightly different note…One of the best parts of starting the new year is getting a round-up of the previous year.  I love getting my blogging report for the year and I have a few special shout outs today to my top commenters:

1. Kim from A Day with KT

2. Nicole from Foodie Loves Fitness
