Outstanding October

It’s October! That means crisp fall weather, pumpkins galore, Halloween and colored leaves. Are you planning on dressing up for Halloween this year? Our office is really big into Halloween and we usually do a themed costume (last year we were Care Bears). I’m not sure what we are doing this year but I hope it involves comfortable, loose clothing! 🙂

Usually October means cramming in last minute nice weather activities before the season-that-shall-not-be-named sets in. This October, however, my plan is to lie low. I’ve been saying that since August but I’ve been way way way too busy and it’s crunch time. I’ve got a list of must-dos (like buy a bassinet so baby has somewhere to sleep!) before Baby B arrives. So my October list is short social-wise and long chore-wise, oh and it involves resting. BUT, that doesn’t mean you should give up on the fun! Here are a few ways to make October Outstanding!

1. Decorate for fall.  I love decorating around the house with both fresh and fake pumpkins.  Recently I’ve found some really interesting squashes at the farmer’s market, which I also use for decoration…well until I eat them that is!

2. Try a pumpkin brew. I’m going to have to pass on this one this year but I do enjoy a good pumpkin brew. I’m not a huge fan of beer in general (blasphemy as my brother brews his OWN beer and is very talented at it) but something about this just says ’tis the season!

3. Try some fall produce like apples, pears, sage, squash or pomegranates. I love all of these flavors. Williams Sonoma’s In Season Guide has some great ideas on how to use some of these things.  The Hubs and I actually went apple picking recently and got ourselves a nice bag of apples to bring home.

4. Take your workout outside! Cooler temps mean it’s the perfect time of year for outdoor activities like running, cycling, hiking, touch football or whatever your heart may desire. Don’t waste these last precious days!  My personal favorite is a hike to check out the fall foliage.

5.  Drink some cider.  Hot or cold.  It doesn’t matter but it’s a great little treat to get you into the mood for the season!

6. Support finding a cure for breast cancer.  October is breast cancer awareness month and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved either through a fitness walk, donating time or money.  It doesn’t matter how, just support the cause!
