Seven Day Detox: Day 3

Hi friends!   I have to say I’m feeling great this week with my detox.  I am feeling really healthy and energized!  Yay for healthy eating and living!  I’ll give you a run down of what Day 3 of the detox looked like but if you are totally bored with it already, I’ll be back a little bit later today to tell you about a really fun event I went to earlier this week!

FOOD

Day 3 was a great day for food!  I started off with a toasted whole wheat sandwich thing plus Justin’s Maple Almond Butter.  Yum!  I didn’t grab a photo (my new job is open plan so I didn’t want everyone thinking I was a weirdo).  I have to say I’m more of a fan of the regular almond butter than the maple.  The maple is actually really salty (I thought it would be sweet? Go figure).

Lots of water plus chamomile tea!

Lunch consisted of leftovers from last night’s healthy chicken and broccoli stir fry!  Yum!  Then a pre-workout snack of sweet chili pistachios for only 100 calories!

Chicken Stir Fry

Dinner was this amazing creation: Turkey Lettuce Tacos.  Holy deliciousness!  I substituted lettuce wraps for tortillas in order to up my veggie intake and reduce processed flour.  They were so good I didn’t even miss the tortillas.  Scroll to the end of this post for the recipe.  (Note- As you can see from this recipe, I used Bibb lettuce.  I highly recommend using Romaine instead because it’s a little bit thicker and will be easier to use as a “taco shell.”).

Tacos

I did better with my snacking today but I couldn’t resist some pineapple Britt chocolate for dessert.  At least it was dark!

WORKOUTS

Workouts are on track this week!  More Zumba choreography for Day 3.  My apartment is like a salsa club.  I kid, I kid.  Another 40 minutes zapped 430 calories!  I also had physical therapy for my elbow in the morning.  PT has mostly been stretching and working on regaining full range of motion.  Now that I have regained almost 100% of my ROM, we are starting to focus on weight bearing.  I actually got to do bicep curls with 2lb weights yesterday!  Hallelujah!  Plus I got to do some wrist movements with 1lb weights and a hammer (don’t ask) and the arm bike.  I’m coming back!

SKIN

It is completely possible to over-stimulate your skin by using too many products and exfoliating too much.  Of course I want to avoid this on my detox plan so for Day 3 I stuck to my regular face regime and added this Garnier Skin Renewal Dark Spot Corrector into the mix.  I use the Skin Renewal BB cream during the day, which I love for work because 1.) It works great; and 2.) I can save my nice Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer for special occasions.  The Dark Spot Corrector is supposed to reduce age spots, dark spots and acne marks.  I thought it would be good to try since I have a few freckles and other dark spots.  So far I can’t say there has been a big improvement but I think I need to use it a bit more consistently.

MIND

I have this awesome meditation app I’ve talked about before called Simply Being.  I love, love, LOVE this app.  It’s by far the best meditation app I’ve seen.  I often use it when I just want to listen to something calming, like on my commute but last night I decided to really try to meditate.  There are time options ranging from 5 minutes to 20 minutes.  I opted for the 20 minute option with some relaxing background music (you could also choose nature sounds), turned out the lights and pressed play.  I have to admit that I started to drift off to sleep more than once while meditating!  I would say this is a success because I often have trouble falling asleep at night because my mind is so focused on all the things I need to do the next day or that I didn’t get done that day.  Simply mantras like “There is nothing you need to be doing right now” really helped me relax.  I think the app is only $0.99 and it’s so worth the money.

I also got out to vote in New York’s primary elections!  Exercising your democratic right is good for the mind!

[yumprint-recipe id=’7′]Readers, do you have any great detox recipes (linking encouraged!).  Do you vote?  Are you successful at meditating?
