Are You Sticking With Your Goals?

Hi friends!  Remember way back when we did Jumpstart January?  Well I wanted to check in with you all and see how your goals were going!  Are you still on your path for healthy living?  I hope so!  If not, here are a few ways to get back on track:

Yoga 2

1.)    Don’t worry about the past.  If you fell off the wagon, don’t just think all is lost and give up.  Start over with a clean slate and look towards the future.  You can’t change what happened but you can focus on what you will do going forward.

2.)    Identify the problem.  Evaluate what triggered you to fall off your path in the first place.  Was it a lack of motivation?  Too many temptations?  Identify what your weakness was and make a conscious effort to avoid it going forward.  Think of ways you can motivate yourself or methods for dealing with temptation.  By identifying the problem and coming up with solutions, you’ll set yourself up for success this time.

3.)    Recommit.  Remember why you set your goals in the first place and what you wanted to achieve.  Think about how achieving this goal will make you feel and how it will positively impact your life.  Recommit to your goal with a determination to make it happen.

4.)    Be realistic.  You know that you’ve had a setback but that doesn’t mean you will continue on your path with smooth sailing from here on out.  You will continue to face setbacks, big or small, along your journey.  Realize that this will happen and the important thing is staying on track and focusing on the bigger picture.

5.)    Enlist support.  Seek out people who can make you accountable or who will be your biggest cheerleader.  If you have people in your life undermining your goals, cut them out.  You don’t need people who want to sabotage you and you do need people who will support you 100%.

6.)    Check in with yourself.  It is so easy to fall off the New Year’s resolution train after the buzz has died down in the media and around the water cooler.  You have to be responsible for keeping the buzz up.  Set times with yourself when you will check in on your progress and see how you are doing.  Whether it is every day, weekly or monthly, schedule this time and make sure you evaluate your progress.

7.)    Reward yourself for accomplishments (even if they are small).  This is a marathon, not a sprint.  You need to take the time to recognize what you have done so far and reward yourself for those accomplishments, otherwise it is going to feel like a never-ending hamster wheel.  Savor what you have done and let this progress influence you to do more in the future.
