Amazing Turkey Chili!

Now that it is officially fall, its time to break out those hearty recipes I love but have had to put on hold all summer long (hot over + small apartment = cooking break ALLL summer!).  One of my absolute favorite healthy meals is Turkey Chili.  Its great because even when there is a chill in the air the spice from this Chili will keep you warm!

Start my browning the turkey in a saucepan on the stove.  I use Shady Brook Farms 99% Fat Free Ground Turkey.  Its a great alternative to normal ground beef.  Even lean ground beef can pack as much as 10 grams of fat compared with only 1 gram in this ground turkey!

I add in a heaping amount of chili powder and then to add some smokiness a dash of chipotle chili pepper and a dash of ground cumin (I know I should give you tsp, TBSP measurements but I prefer to adjust spice content based on my own taste.  If you like it spicy, add a lot-less spicy, hold back a bit!).

Next its time to chop up the veg!  Red pepper, yellow pepper, serano pepper, jalapeno and half of a red onion.  After the turkey is browned, throw ’em in the pot!

If you want to add in some extra spice, chop up one to two chipotle chili peppers in adobo and add one TBSP of the adobo sauce to the turkey.  *NOTE*- Chipotle chilis in adobo are SPICY!  You may want to deseed them before adding them into the turkey.  If you can’t stand a lot of spice, I highly recommend you skip this step!

Next add in one 28 oz can of diced tomatoes.  I prefer Muir Glen’s Fire Roasted Tomatoes.

Now simmer the turkey and let it do its work melding all the flavors together!  I would give it about 7 minutes.

Then top with all the goodies-tortialls chips, salsa, avocado, and some reduced fat shredded cheddar!

Then serve it up!  I highly recommend with a Sam Adams Pumpkin Ale to really get that fall flavor!
