Yogurt, Juice, Running and More!

Hey all!  I can’t believe it’s already Friday!  Yay!  Love a week that flies by! 🙂  Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?  I’ve got some fun things up my sleeve so I’m looking forward!  Today’s post is full of a few random tidbits here and there so bear with me! 🙂

First up, can I just tell you how much I hate stomach aches?  Like, I really hate them.  So you can imagine my dismay yesterday when I found out that Chobani was recalling it’s yogurt  I was even more dismayed to find out that the recall code number and dates matched my yogurt.  The one I had already eaten for breakfast.  Yeah. . .

Moldy chobani

Now, you know I’ve professed  my love for Chobani before (here and here) and I’m not that upset about the fact that the yogurt was recalled for mold (well, I am, but these things do happen).  What I’m upset about is that this has been an issue for awhile.  I’ve read various reports that claim Chobani was taking yogurts off the shelves as early as last week.  I actually had a yogurt that was bloated even though the expiry date was far off.  The Hubs told me it was bad and I should throw it away.  This was at least a week ago.  Of course, I had no idea this could be a widespread problem.  I wish Chobani had been more upfront about the issues with the yogurt sooner.  I am really upset that the opportunity for me to eat the yogurt occurred.  I make every effort not to put myself at risk for consuming tainted food and I feel deceived that I was allowed to eat something that could be potentially harmful for my health.  I’ve had enough stomach issues for this week, thankyouverymuch.

Oh, were you wondering about the other stomach issues?  Well, I did a cleanse this week! Wait, WHAAAT?  Did I just say I did a cleanse?  Did I not just write a post about the potential harmful effects of cleanses?  Okay, so I didn’t really do a cleanse.  I had to go in for a, cough, procedure this week to check my colon as a result of some family medical history that puts me at a greater risk for polyps (which you can learn more about here and here).

Blue Print Juice Clenase 3

Part of the procedure involves not eating for an entire day beforehand.  I thought this would be a good time to try some of the juice cleanse products since I was allowed to drink liquids.  I drank a Blue Print lime, ginger, lemon and agave juice at 11 am hoping it would get me through lunch.  Unfortunately upon finishing the juice bottle I felt incredibly nauseous and had the worst stomach ache.  I couldn’t understand!  I had tried this juice before with no problems.  After doing some major Googling, I learned that this kind of nausea is actually quite common with these juice cleanses.  I guess the juices can really irritate your stomach.  So, no more juice cleanses in my future!

Ok, have you heard enough of my complaining already!?  I’m sorry! 🙂  Let me tell you about two great things!  Last week I had the opportunity to head downtown for an event hosted by Tampax with espnW.  Tampax was kind enough to invite me to view their end of summer finale event.  They have been working all summer to promote their Awesomely Active campaign which is all about women staying active and living without limits.  EspnW has been doing a similar campaign called 98 Days to Shine.  In both campaigns women from all over took photos of themselves being active.  I had the opportunity to view a selection of the photos at the event!

Oh, and you might see someone familiar in there if you check out the photos on Tampax’s Facebook page.  Voting ends October 6th so don’t forget to submit yours!

In addition to checking out all the amazing photos of women from around the country doing amazing things from lifting tire, cheerleading, surfing and more, I also got to hang out with the awesome ladies at Tampax and my friends Anna from Tough Lipstick and Abby from Abby’s Road to Amazingness.  Obviously crazy times ensued! 🙂

Lastly, I know a lot of you are runners out there so I must mention this awesome run coming up later this month!  Women’s Health Magazine and FEED are hosting their 2nd annual Run10FEED10 event, a 10k to combat hunger.  The concept is simple: run a 10K and provide 10 meals for those struggling with hunger in New York. Last year, RUN10 FEED10 raised 1 million meals nationwide.  The run will take place on September 22nd in NYC.  If you would like to register, visit www.run10feed10.com. AND I’ve got a special discount code for you all!  Get $5 off your registration fee by entering the promo code: R10F10USA.

Readers, what do you think of the Chobani recall?  Have you ever had to not eat for an entire day?  Do you race for a cause?
